Occasionaly, members from Clay-Union Electric, Union County Electric and B-Y Electric take a bus trip to tour Basin Electric’s Antelope Valley Coal Generation Station, the Freedom Coal Mine and the Great Plains, Synfuels Plant – all located in North Dakota. During the tour, cooperative members also stop and tour the East River Electric Power Cooperative headquarters facilities in Madison, South Dakota. In addition, participants also visit the World War II Memorial in Pierre.
During the trip, members of the cooperative have the opportunity to learn first hand how electricity is generated and distributed to cooperatives like Clay-Union Electric.
The tour is available to Clay-Union Electric members. Each member is asked to pay $12.50 towards the cost of the trip ($25 couple). Tour participants must be at least 18 years of age. The cost of the trip includes all transportation, lodging and meals. Seat availablity is limited to members who have never before been on the tour and on a first come basis.
