Our 2019 Basin Scholarship winner is Alexander Palecek
Alex Palecek, Yankton, SD received the $1000 Basin Electric Scholarship for his award winning essay "How a cooperative can build a culture to best serve its members".
Alex will continue his education as a sophomore at the University of Minnesota, to pursue a Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering with a Neuroscience minor, then he would like to complete a Ph. D. in Neuroengineering and subsequently search for a teaching position at a university. He hopes to spend his career instructing all levels of course as a tenured faculty concurrently completing groundbreaking research in the subfield of neural sensing technologies coupled with machine learning algorithms.
Alex is the son of Kristi and Lance Palacek.
Each year, Clay-Union Electric Cooperative awards a $1,000 Basin Electric scholarship to one of our members or their dependents.
The selection procedure is handled by a committee and the candidates must provide information regarding ACT and SAT ratings, GPA, and extracurricular school and community activities.
The applicant must be a student who is enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time graduate or undergraduate course of study at an accredited, two year or four year college, university, or vocational/technical school and parent or guardian must be a member of Clay-Union Electric.
