Start Service

  • To begin service with Clay-Union Electric, please fill out and submit the "Application for Electric Service and Membership" form below.

  • All members are required to pay a $20 meter deposit and $5 membership fee. This fee can be paid by MasterCard, VISA or Discover by calling the office.

  • Also required is a credit deposit which is a two and a half month's average bill. This can be waived with a current, 12-month letter of credit, showing two or less late payments from your previous utility company. Please have your credit history emailed to office@clayunionelectric.coop or faxed to 605-624-5526. Please call or email the office for the deposit amount if you cannot provide a sufficient credit history.

If the location you are moving to currently has no meter, a $75 reconnect fee is also required.

 

 

APPLICATION FOR ELECTRIC SERVICE AND MEMBERSHIP

TERMS OF SERVICE

The undersigned (hereinafter called the “Applicant”), hereby applies for membership with CLAY-UNION ELECTRIC CORP. (hereinafter called the “Cooperative”), upon the following terms and conditions.

1. Upon the Cooperative’s acceptance of this application and payment by member of a five-dollar ($5) membership fee and twenty dollar ($20) meter deposit, the applicant shall be a member of this Cooperative.

2. The Applicant shall comply with and be bound by the Cooperative’s meter and credit deposit requirements now in effect or as modified from time to time.

3. The Applicant shall purchase from the Cooperative all electric energy consumed at such time that the Cooperative makes such electric power available. The Applicant shall pay the Cooperative for all such electric power monthly, at rates and in such a manner as prescribed by the Cooperative’s by-laws, policies and procedures. All sums paid by the Applicant in excess of the Cooperative’s operation costs and expenses chargeable against the furnishing of electric energy shall be retained by the Cooperative as capital. The Applicant shall not resell any electric power purchased from the Cooperative.

4. The Applicant shall allow Cooperative employees and its agents access to all property owned and leased by the Applicant for purposes of maintaining electric service to the Applicant and others. In addition the Applicant shall, without compensation, execute written easements to the Cooperative granting the Cooperative and its agent’s access on and over all property owned and leased by Applicant for the purpose of constructing, extending, maintaining and improving the Cooperative’s electrical facilities or extending such facilities to the Applicant and others.

5. The Cooperative may, as necessary, cut, trim, spray or otherwise remove trees, shrubs and vegetation from the Applicant’s property which may interfere with the Cooperative’s electric facilities.

6. The Applicant will cause their premises to be wired in accordance with wiring specifications as recommended by the National Electric Code, the State of South Dakota and this Cooperative.

7. The Applicant agrees to be bound by and at all times comply with the Cooperative’s Articles of Incorporation, by-laws, policies and procedures as may now be effective or as from time to time amended.

8. In the event the Applicant is a corporation, partnership, Limited Liability Company or other business organization, the person signing this application form on their behalf agrees to be personally responsible and liable for payment of all sums due to the Cooperative for the purchase of electric power and other services (Responsible Party).

9. The Applicant assumes no personal liability or responsibility for any debts or liabilities of the Cooperative.

10. The acceptance of this application by the Cooperative shall constitute an agreement between the Applicant and the Cooperative and shall continue from the date service is made available and thereafter until cancelled by notice given by either party to the other.

11. In the event of Applicant is a renter, Landlord information must be provided and will be contacted in the event the account becomes delinquent and up for disconnection for non-payment.
